In order to maintain our high level of care, Weston Medical Centre have reviewed our fees. We have determined that we must reduce our level of bulk billing. This change will occur from the 1st September 2024. The fee schedule we have been working from falls significantly short of industry standards. This is mainly because of our commitment to support our patients through the transition to private fees we introduced in 2022. Unfortunately, because of the huge increases in wages, inflation, and the cost of running our clinic, it is not sustainable.
The clinic asks that you understand the reason for these increases. The Medicare rebate was established by the Gorton Government in 1970, and the benefit levels are fixed arbitrarily by the Federal Government. Benefit levels have not kept pace with inflation, widening the gap between reasonable fees and professional expertise, without consideration to the cost of running a practice.
Without the increases, Weston Medical Centre will not be able to continue to support your health with the quality care you need and deserve. The service your Doctor provides is valuable, but it is important that it is also sustainable.
